The hike starts in Niederthai at the car park Sennhof (next to the Information Office). From there, you turn right over the wooden bridge in the direction of Höfle and after about 200 meters turn again right into the Bergmahderweg. Follow this way into the valley until after about 150 meters on the left side the marked, narrow trail to Narrenkogel branches off. Then hike on the somewhat steeper path to the Bergle. Small wetland biotopes and springs can be found here, in the early summer enrich "Lady of the snows" (Pulsatilla vernalis) and "Gentian", later in the summer the "Nigritella nigra" can be seen on these former hay meadows. Passing a hunting lodge you hike over a open mountain meadow. Here you turn right and walk on a steep path through the light stone pine forest to the tree line and on to the summit. The Narrenkogel applies both of Umhausen and Niederthai the local mountain, that's why he has two summit crosses.
